| The Barn Choir Summer Concert 2010 | ||
| On
Monday 19 July the Barn Choir gave their 23rd summer concert in St Joseph’s
Convent chapel. Once again the Choir delighted the audience with their
wonderful musical talent. As always the Choir can be relied upon to deliver
a varied and wide-ranging repertoire. Pieces were performed from Scott
Joplin, Irving Berlin, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
The Barn Choir were joined again by members of the Regis School of music
including ‘The Quintessential Quintet,’ the ‘Lydavid
Duo’ and last but not least the extremely gifted classical guitarist
Sam Brown. The audience listened intently while Sam played variations
on a theme from The Magic Flute, by Mozart. The enthusiastic applause
resulted in Sam performing another shorter number, much to the pleasure
of the enchanted listeners. The audience were encouraged to join in the
last number ‘Down by the Riverside’ arranged by John Rutter.
After the final applause Sister Angela read a letter from Sister Anne
in Peru. The Sisters would like to thank the Barn Choir, The Quintessential
Quintet, The Lydavid Duo and Sam Brown for their generosity in giving
up their time and talents to raise money for the Sisters mission in Peru.
We wish to extend our gratitude to all who made the evening such a success.
We are delighted to announce that the voluntary retiring collection raised
£817.53. This amount together with donations before the event of
£552.50 totalled the amazing figure of £1370.03 for our mission
in Peru. May the Lord bless you all and give you peace. The Barn Choir would like to say they are always ready to welcome new members. They meet on the first Monday of the month (not January or August) in St Joseph’s Hall, opposite the Chapel Door. Watch this space for dates and details of the next Barn Choir concert. |

| The Barn Choir Summer Concert 2009 | ||
On Monday 20 July the Barn Choir gave their annual summer concert at St Joseph’s Convent chapel and helped raise £1,230 to aid the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Littlehampton (FMSL) charity work in Peru. This year the choir dedicated their performance, as a tribute to Eric Davies, one of their longstanding members who sadly died earlier this year. The audience was entertained with a varied and impressive recital, which included pieces by the composers John Rutter, Gershwin, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Three classical guitarists Jez Rogers, Karim Bedda and Sam Brown, from the Regis School of Music joined the programme and provided a number of solo and duet performances. The Sisters are delighted with the amount raised and wish to thank everyone who helped make the evening a success. Please see Our Missions page to see our latest letter from Peru. Thank you to everyone for this wonderful generosity and to the Barn Choir who inspired it.

We
had the pleasure of listening to a varied and entertaining repertoire
under the direction of David Rudling. It was a privilege to witness the
performance of guest artist Tom Emery. Tom is a very talented solo classical
guitarist and performed four classical pieces.
Our Mission in Lima celebrates 25 years of the presence
of the Littlehampton Franciscan Sisters among the people of Santa Rosa
on the Feast of Santa Rosa at the end of August 2007. We are therefore
delighted that £1,001 was raised here at The Barn Choir 20th Anniversary
Summer Concert. We thank all who have supported the work of the Sisters in this Mission during these years.

We
the Sisters are grateful to all who share our work and to those who direct
money to the fund, in memory of a loved one who has died. All of you share
in the prayers of the Sisters, and Masses are offered each month for all
our benefactors. |

What
is the Comedor? The Comedor is basically a canteen. It is an area where
food is cooked, en masse, for the community of Santa Rosa de Puente Piedra,
Lima Peru. |
